Dangerbear Rules
How the Teams Work
✯ Each team must have at least three players! Preferably four.
✯ If this is not the case, your team will be paired up with another. For the duration of the game, the two teams will essentially function as one.
✯ Two per team are now Monsters, while the remaining characters are normal. All characters playing the game have been branded with a symbol in their team color; the location is up to you.
✯ Each team will ICly choose one player to be their Heart, and indicate their choice under the Heart header comment of each post. The Heart is like the King piece in chess: once that character is dead, your team has lost.
✯ Ideally, the Heart and Monsters should be people who can be there every round. If no one can do this, then pick someone who will be reasonably available and be prepared to backthread if necessary.
✯ Non-monster characters who can be reasonably available each game night have first dibs on claiming the Heart position. This is to ensure that everyone gets an even slice of the funtime pie.
✯ Any team that loses their Heart is out of the game. All the characters belonging to that team will be grayed out on the character board and no longer considered part of the game.
✯ The game will last absolutely no longer than four rounds. Rounds will be every other night, starting on the 17th.
How Does I Om Nom Nom
✯ You may list second, third, etc. choices for eating -- in fact, we highly recommend that you do so. That way you will be sure to have someone to nom in a timely fashion.
✯ You may abstain from eating; however, there will be IC consequences for this.
✯ If and when you have selected and indicated an active character to NOM, they will be delivered to your post by ~MAGIC~, still alive and kicking.
✯ If both the nommer and the nommee want to play out the nommings, go for it! You may play out as much (or as little) of the action as you choose. Just be sure to touch base re: comfort zones and drama levels before continuing. Threads must not exceed the comfort zones of anyone involved.
✯ If the character delivered to you is a monster, then a BATTLE!!! may occur. The monster in question is allowed to defend themselves -- and one member of the eating team is killed in the fight, determined by an OOC dice roll OR by other OOC planning.
✯ If the character delivered to you is not a monster, then by default they will not be able to take down another character with them. However! Something different may occur, IF all the players involved agree to do something more dramatically pleasing.
✯ If there are any OOC disagreements as to how, exactly, the eating goes down, then the default will be enforced.
✯ The results of each round are due OOCly by the time each round ends; however, IC threads can (and probably should) be backthreaded as necessary.
Resisting and You
✯ Each monster character must feed once per OOC day / IC round OR contact me for a Willpower Check. If your team successfully eats someone in the round and your character partakes, then you do not have to make a Willpower Check.
✯ A Willpower Check will be a roll I make, based on how long it’s been since your character last ate. Everyone’s got a chance of lasting an OOC day and not going berserk from hunger, but go longer than that and your odds go down very quickly.
✯ A character that is Berserk is now trapped in monster form, and has no thought other than the desire to feed.
Losing the Game
✯ Your team is eliminated when your Heart is killed (and presumably eaten) by another team.
✯ Everyone who dies has the option of Ghosting! Ghosts will be able to hang out in a locked post and popcorn.gif everything going on, but they cannot in any way make their presence known. Players can choose whether or not their characters remember this upon revival in endgame.
✯ If there are any monsters left on the team after the leader has died, then you may OOCly choose between two IC options for what happens next:
✯ This is an OOC choice, not an IC one. ICly there is no difference between monsters who end up Not-Hungry/Hungry after their leader is eliminated. It does not represent the IC ability to resist or not resist the game’s monster effect.
Filling in the Loopholes
Monsters, even in human form, will:
• Not be able to kill and/or eat their own heart.
• Not be able to kill themselves.
• Not be particularly inclined to eat any (living) teammates (though the scent of their blood will be yummy), AS LONG AS they keep themselves fed.
• Not find their hunger sated by eating anything BUT people. It'll help a little, but not a lot.
• Should teammates attempt to kill the Monsters, the Monster's first instinct will be to incapacitate them.
Basically, as well as ravenous hunger, the Monsters will find themselves saddled with an incredibly strong instinct to Survive. The idea of allowing their Heart to die will be like 'NOPE.GIF', no matter how mad from hunger they are. Likewise, they can verbally agree to die quietly, but in practice it won't work out so well.
Should a Heart suicide (in any way), or be killed by their team:
• The monsters will auto-berserk.
Secrets, Secrets (A Few Last Words on OOC Conduct)
✯ At any time during the game, you are welcome to have private posts with your team, with others, whateves. Just make them visible to aequivocus and PM Pepper a link! My computer will be on and connected at all times, I’ll just try to be good about away nicks when I’m not here.
✯ Because some players are on multiple teams, it’s possible that you will be exposed to extra OOC information that your character ICly does not have access to. If this happens, you are on the honor system not to use OOC information to IC advantage. I trust y'all! :|b
✯ Likewise, scoping out who has monster icons is also cheating.
✯ One more time, just to make it absolutely clear: be respectful of your fellow players. This especially applies to player comfort zones, but also to divvying up the delicious trauma as much as it does to dishing it out. Always touch base with EVERYONE involved before working out an outcome. Everyone should get the opportunity to do something interesting by the end of the game. Don’t hog the spotlight or godmode out of a fight because “it would be IC.” We’re working on by the rule of Awesome and Respectful here, so let us all be awesome and respectful!

+Your character is no longer hungry. For anything. All desires they would normally feel are killed. They will not feel the urge for food, water, sleep, companionship, memories, friends, none of it. They are essentially empty. Their health may suffer in this state if they don’t take care of themselves, but they will not feel pain. Any character under this effect will have their symbols greyed out. This effects ALL remaining members of the team: monster or normal.
+ Your character is still hungry. They will not be participating in, nor will they be vulnerable to the daily nommings, and hunting wild animals may successfully satiate the hunger just enough that they won't go berserk. They CAN choose to prey on those still participating in the game, with permission of all involved, and doing so will satiate the hunger for a maximum of two IC days. Any character under this effect will have symbols that glow red. This only effects monsters. Normal participants will still have red symbols, and may start to think that all of the cannibalism doesn’t really look so bad after all, but they will not NEED to eat nor have a monster form.
